Summer lovin’.
Summer is my hands-down, don’t fight me on this, favorite season. Deck life IS life and I will spend every possible moment out there until I’m freezing my fingers off, which honestly won’t take much.
Today I’m doing something a little different and sharing with you our organic summer date night at home! Even though we have both sets of grandparents within twenty minutes of us at all times, it’s important to take as much time alone together as we can.
We’re true homebodies when it comes down to it, so it totally made sense for us to put together a little date night at home instead of going out.
We keep string lights set up around our back deck year round to keep that cozy vibe going, and I put together a simple supper consisting of my summer salad with fruit, our favorite cheeses, and cocktails made with Prairie Organic Vodka.
The salad was a natural choice to go with the cocktails because Prairie Organic Vodka contains hints of melon and pear on the nose. As with all my recipes, that summer salad is easily customizable, so don’t hesitate to swap the mandarin oranges for slices of pear to match the distinct taste of the vodka.
My tastes have definitely changed and refined over the years. Gone are the days of loud, late night parties with greasy cheeseburgers. Enter quiet deck date at home with aged cheese, organic leafy greens, and cocktails made from the finest natural ingredients.
We’ve been making a lot of gin and tonics lately, but in this case we swapped in Prairie Organic Vodka in place of the gin to make a vodka tonic! I tried one with their cucumber vodka which made it so crisp and refreshing. We always keep our vodka chilled so it doesn’t get watered down when adding ice.
I love the quality of organic products, and while I don’t purchase organic every single time I do make that choice as often as possible. We also have a little fire pit sitting right off the deck so we can enjoy a fire and keep mosquitos away on these warm summer nights. It doesn’t get much cozier than cuddling up next to a flickering fire and watching the sun go down.
In years past we would often sit out there and sing songs on the guitar. I can’t believe how long it’s been since we’ve done that, now I’m itching to get back to it!
